Honorary Chairs Ted & Helen Hughes invite you to attend the 2017 Iris Reception, the sixth annual event in which Investors Group (Downtown) and the Victoria branch of the BC Schizophrenia Society (BCSS Victoria) have partnered to raise awareness that there is hope for recovery from mental illness and to reduce the stigma around these much misunderstood illnesses. But another very important goal is to raise money to support the programs that BCSS Victoria offers that give people hope and help them find the road back to a meaningful life. Funds raised at the event will be directed to programs supporting youth.
Our keynote speaker is Bernard Richard, BC’s Child and Youth Representative. Also speaking will be Cam Webster, a young man first diagnosed at 19 and received help from a peer supporter who had “been there†in his own recovery. Cam then completed his own Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) course to further enhance his hope, wellness and develop a relapse prevention plan. Overall, Cam said that “It was very comforting to converse with people of all different age groups about mental health and how they were recovering from their own battles with it.†Cam now provides community presentations for BCSS Victoria’s partnership program while working part time and going to school. He is also undergoing training so he can facilitate workshops for others. Cam’s hard work and willingness to give back and inspire others is so admirable.
